An intermittent fault is the only kind of problem that beats experience. A tech who is genuinely good at steady-state diagnosis can lose a week to a wire that opens for forty milliseconds when the frame flexes over a particular expansion joint.
The reason is simple. Every normal diagnostic method assumes the fault is present while you're testing. Intermittents break that assumption, so the whole standard process quietly stops working — and the usual outcome is a string of replaced parts that each "fixed it" until it came back.
This is the process that works instead. It's slower to start and far faster to finish.
