FMI 6 — Current above normal or grounded circuit
Too much current on the output circuit — usually a shorted coil or a control wire touching ground.
Common causes
- Shorted internal winding in the actuator or injector
- Control wire chafed to ground or to the frame
- Wet or salt-corroded connector
- Wrong-part or mis-pinned repair harness
What to test, in order
- Measure coil resistance — well below spec means the device is shorted
- Unplug the device and re-run the test: if the code clears, the device is at fault
- Check the control wire for continuity to ground with the device unplugged
- Inspect any recent harness repair or splice on that circuit
