SPN 3251 FMI 0 — DPF differential pressure very high

SPN 3251 identifies the parameter the control module is monitoring — dpf differential pressure very high. FMI 0 is the failure mode the module logged against it. Both numbers matter: the same SPN with a different FMI is a different repair.

Severe derate and possible shutdown timer. Truck loses power quickly.

• Plugged diesel particulate filter
• Failed differential pressure sensor or plugged lines
• Missed or interrupted regens

• Read soot and ash load in the service tool
• Check the DP sensor hoses for soot plugging or kinks
• Attempt a parked regen in a safe, clear area

Work the list in order and record the readings. Confirm the fault with live data before any part is ordered — a code names a circuit, never a failed component.

Park it — do not drive

A plugged DPF will derate you to walking speed and can melt the filter. Do not run it home — park it and get a parked regen or filter service.

• Replacing the sensor named in the SPN before checking its wiring, connector and ground.
• Clearing the code and handing the truck back without reproducing the operating condition that set it.
• Reading one code out of a set instead of finding which fault occurred first.
